According to China Customs export data analyzed by 2Firsts, China’s vape-related export structure continued to shift during the first five months of 2026. Exports of electronic vaporisation devices increased year on year, while exports of nicotine-containing non-combustible products declined, with the two product categories showing different trends in export value, shipment volume and average export prices.

Device Exports Continue to Expand

Exports under HS 85434000, covering electronic cigarettes and similar personal vaporisation devices, reached US$1.389 billion during January-May 2026, up 13.00% from a year earlier and accounting for 34.56% of China’s total vape-related exports. Nicotine Product Exports Decline

Exports under HS 24041200, covering other nicotine-containing non-combustible products, totaled US$2.629 billion, down 6.89% year on year and representing 65.44% of total exports. Export volume fell 9.12%, while the weighted average export price increased 2.45%, partially offsetting the decline in shipment volume.

Export Mix Continues to Evolve

Nicotine-containing non-combustible products remained China’s largest vape-related export category, accounting for nearly two-thirds of total exports. At the same time, electronic vaporisation devices continued to gain share as exports expanded. China Customs data indicate that differing performance across the two product categories reflects an ongoing shift in China’s vape export mix.

Research | Swedish Study Finds Oral Lesions in 79% of Examined Nicotine Pouch Users, With Distinct Tissue Responses
A new Swedish study found oral mucosal lesions in 79% of examined nicotine pouch users and 89% of tobacco-derived snus users, with different tissue-response patterns between the two categories. For manufacturers and regulators, the findings shift attention toward product formulation, flavouring, pouch materials and local oral exposure, not only whether a product contains tobacco. The study found no higher prevalence of caries or periodontal disease, but it could not establish causality, long-term outcomes or differences between individual products or designs.

Heated-tobacco platform glo remained under pressure, and cigarettes continued to provide most of the group’s profit and cash. Compared with PMI and JT, BAT has more routes to growth—but also greater regulatory, investment and execution risks across its broader portfolio.
